Eosinophilic esophagitis: current status and future directions


Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is a chronic, immune-mediated, inflammatory condition characterized by symptoms of esophageal dysfunction and eosinophil-predominant inflammation (≥15 eosinophils per high-power field) of the esophageal mucosa diagnosed after exclusion of other causes of esophageal eosinophilia (Table 1). In this communication, we touch on current status of various aspects of EoE and highlight opportunities for future work.
